Spirit of the dragon Taiko Concert featuring Aber Taiko, 2taikos, and SFTD-Resonance.

We had so much fun and satisfaction from organising, collaborating and playing in our “Swansea Year of Taiko” concert at the beginning of 2017, that very soon after we decided to create another concert. To this second concert of ours we invited two taiko duos to play with us: 2taiko and SFTD•Resonance. We have been studying with both groups in the past year. They have helped us to improve our technique, inspired us and worked with us on our repertoire. We are hugely thankful and indebted to them and we are very happy and proud to share the stage with them.

2taiko are Yumi Célia, Alison Roe and two taiko drums. Yumi started playing taiko growing up in Tokyo, in a local group based at the shrine of Nezu, and Alison began drumming in Scotland, touring full-time with Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers. They joined forces while living in Montréal and enjoyed the challenge and versatility of playing as a duo. They’ve since performed in the US, Japan and England and are now based in Scotland and France. It takes 2 to taiko…

SFTD · 共鳴

SFTD-GongMing Xun Dong and Ting-Chi Li

共鳴, pronounced as “gong-ming”, means “resonance”.  The group was formed in 2013 by Xun Dong and Ting-Chi Li.

We named it “Resonance” in Chinese to represent our cultural roots and collaborative spirit. For us, taiko is a passion, a belief, and a way of life. Playing taiko is a journey to harmony.

In the summer of 2016, we had the great honour to receive Tanaka Sensei’s blessing and represent SFTD in London. It’s a responsibility and privilege that we take with honour, respect, and pride. We are SFTD · 共鳴.

“Spirit of the Dragon” will be held in the  Taliesin Arts Centre in Swansea University on 24th March 2018 7:30pm. Doors open at 7pm.

We hope to see you there! 🙂
